While accompanying my husband on a sabbatical abroad I suddenly found myself without studio or the necessary materials to work with.
On the other hand I was surrounded, on a daily basis, with such extraordinary characters that I could not refrain from depicting them.
I decided to create my own materials: papier maché from old newspapers and hair and clothes from discarded rags. Paint was readily available.
In this way a whole series of figurines came into existence that I made into hand puppets for my kids (and now my grandchildren too).
Back home I recently took up this craft again by finding back these relics from the past hidden in a corner and urgently needing restoration.
I saw this as a chance to renew my interest in this ability and explore new horizons.
